Destination Wedding Tips – Planning

You’ve decided you want to get away and have a destination wedding!  Whether it is just the two of you or inviting family and friends, you still have some planning to do.

In this series, we are going to break it out into 3 sections, planning, travel and wedding day.  So in part one, planning!   Here is a list of questions to discuss.

What do you like?  Snow?  Sand?  Europe? Vegas? Mexico? Hawaii?

What is your budget? Does this destination work for your budget?  How many guests?

Once you decided on a location, guest count and a budget, start researching that destination’s marriage laws, especially if overseas.  If overseas, should you get married in the US and do a ceremonial ceremony?

Now where at the destination will you get married?  Castle, hotel, beach or a wedding venue, start researching at 9 months before you go to secure the venue that you like.  If you are the spontaneous kind call the venue that you are interested in and see what is available, the great thing with destination weddings is you can get in during the wedding.

Next time Travel!

Happy Planning!

Northwest Destination: Seabrook, WA “A New Beach Town”

A town less than ten years old, this “new beach town” is located about one mile south from Pacific Beach on Route 109 and about three hours drive away from Seattle. Seabrook is a great place to travel to for a relaxing vacation or to have a beautiful beach wedding because it gets a lot more sunshine than the Seattle area! The available cottage rentals are great for a honeymoon experience getaway, or even a great place to bring the whole family! Cottage rentals can accomodate more than 20 guests. If you don’t feel like relaxing by the beach all day, Seabrook has many attractions that are great for everyone including:

5 star dining

Casino

Scenic coastal drives

State Park

Wildlife Refuge

Fishing

& Clam digging

If you have been to Ocean Shores or the Oregon Coast, you’ll definitely enjoy the feel of Seabrook, Washington and it’s calm, laid back, small town environment filled with exciting attractions and a beautiful beach.

Destination Wedding in Chicago – Kelly & Cyrus

In June 2012, wedding planner Jen set off to Chicago for Kelly and Cyrus’ destination wedding.

College sweethearts Kelly and Cyrus were married at the picturesque Ravisloe Country Club in Homewood, Illinois.

The Ravisloe Country Club claims unparalleled ambiance, with Gilded Age architecture housing banquet facilities newly renovated in the classic style with lush garden surroundings.

It was the perfect destination for the couple to celebrate with 200 of their friends and family. Colors of pink and sage accentuated the natural ambiance of the venue.

The playful bridal party made time for some fun on the field. Check out these great photos captured by Joe Nowak.

Roche Harbor Resort – Venue Spotlight

Another venue I love to work at is the Roche Harbor Resort, a seaside resort that offers unique experiences on San Juan Island, WA, a place where you can interact with the beauty around you.

Roche Harbor’s wedding venues made it Seattle Bride Magazine’s 2012 Best NW Destination and Outdoor Wedding, and a finalist for top waterfront wedding location.  And because they host only one wedding each day, you’ll have the flexibility you need to create a space you’ve always dreamed of.

They have two ceremony venues on site including a beautiful chapel that can accomodate up to 110 guests or the flower filled sunken garden that can accomodate up to 300 guests. For the reception you can choose from the pavilion and courtyard for up to 150 guests or the lovely seaside lawn for up to 250 guests.

Hawaiian Tropical Wedding – Cara & Gene

I worked with the clients for a year planning their tropical Maui wedding. Big mahalo to Hyatt Regency for scheduling us last minute when the Bride lost her first ceremony site! It was a beautiful wedding.

Cara and Gene married in March in a ceremony at the Hyatt Regency, overlooking the ocean. Thirty guests accompanied the couple, wearing Hawaiian flower and shell leis. They celebrated with a casual reception at Duke’s Beach House.

The bride wore an elegant lace dress from the Nordstrom Wedding Suite and a Plumeria flower in her hair, which symbolizes a bride’s loyalty to her husband. The groom wore traditional lava-lava to incorporate his Samoan heritage. The bridesmaid’s colorful, floral dresses reflected the tropical theme of the wedding and beach venue.

Aloha!

About Alderbrook Resort and Spa:

A convenient two hours from Seattle, Washington, the Alderbrook Resort takes you worlds away. Surrounded by the Olympic Mountains, the Resort & Spa rests on the shores of the Hood Canal, a glacier-carved fjord home to eagles and osprey, salmon and seals.

We believe that a getaway shouldn’t mean roughing it. Our luxury guestrooms and accommodations are beautifully designed with thoughtfully appointed amenities. Like premium linens and comfy duvets. Daybeds and soaking tubs. A lobby with a massive stone fireplace and leather couches to sink into. A waterfront pool. A world-class full service Spa. A neighboring PGA-class golf course. Plus some of the best food in the region, with fresh local seafood and world-class wines. And a marina only steps away. So your boat can come with you.

Alderbrook Resort and Spa Weddings:

This is Your Day. At Alderbrook, we can help make your wedding whatever you want it to be. A formal ceremony on the terrace or a casual beachfront event followed by a barbeque of fresh local seafood. Alderbrook is home to where love is found, celebrated and rekindled.

People love to get married at Alderbrook, and we love to help them make it special. The best part? When the happy couple gazes out at the crowd of family and friends, takes in the view of the stunning mountains and picturesque Hood Canal, and a warm, loving look comes into their eyes-an anniversary is born. That’s when we know we’ve done our job right.

Not to worry – we’ll take care of the details. Our Washington State wedding packages include full tableware, buffet and table linens, skirting and napkins, a dance floor and hosted bar service. But we go above and beyond that – just tell us what you’re looking for, and we’ll do our best to make it happen.
